Mills River

Henderson County, North Carolina

The Mills River restoration project successfully improved water quality and aquatic habitats in the French Broad River Basin and provided a demonstration site for a healthy riparian forest ecosystem in a USFS recreational area. The natural channel design project includes channel relocation and reconfiguration to create stable morphology and floodplain connection, streambank bioengineering, riparian buffer establishment, invasive plant control, and in-stream boulder and log structures for hydraulic energy management and aquatic habitat enhancement. The project serves as a long-term demonstration site for ecosystem restoration monitoring and education.
