Parkerson Mill Creek

Auburn, Alabama

The Parkerson Mill Creek restoration projects have successfully improved water quality and aquatic habitats in Eastern Alabama and provided a demonstration site for a healthy urban stream in the Tallapoosa River Basin. The natural channel design projects include channel relocation and reconfiguration to create stable morphology and floodplain connection, streambank bioengineering, riparian buffer establishment, invasive plant control, and in-stream boulder and log structures for hydraulic energy management and aquatic habitat enhancement. The project serves as a long-term demonstration site for ecosystem restoration monitoring and education. To date, two reaches of Parkerson Mill Creek have been restored, with the next phase of implementation scheduled for 2018 on Auburn University Campus.
