Ivy River Restoration

Madison County, North Carolina

The Ivy River Bank Enhancement project successfully improved water quality and aquatic habitats in the Ivy River by reducing streambank erosion and adding a native riparian buffer to an unstable river bank on private property.  The natural channel design project includes streambank bioengineering using vegetated geolifts and an in-stream boulder j-hook vane for hydraulic energy management and aquatic habitat enhancement.  The project serves as a long-term demonstration site for ecosystem restoration education in a water supply watershed.
