Moores Creek Restoration

Lanett and Valley, Alabama

The Moores Creek restoration project successfully improved water quality and aquatic habitats in the Moores Creek watershed in Eastern Alabama and provided a demonstration site for a healthy urban stream in the Chattahoochee River Basin. The natural channel design project includes channel relocation and reconfiguration to create stable morphology and floodplain connection, streambank bioengineering, riparian buffer establishment, invasive plant control, and in-stream boulder and log structures for hydraulic energy management and aquatic habitat enhancement. The project serves as a long-term demonstration site for ecosystem restoration monitoring and education.
